Everything About Vajrasana: Benefits, Time Limit & Information

Complete information about Vajrasana (Thunderbolt Pose) including benefits, time limit, proper technique, and common mistakes to avoid.

Vajrasana, or the Thunderbolt Pose, is unique in the yoga world. It is one of the few asanas that can be practiced immediately after a meal. In fact, it is highly recommended for digestion.

Vajrasana Pose

The Science Behind Vajrasana

When you sit in Vajrasana, you block blood flow to the lower legs and redirect it to the pelvic region and stomach. This increased blood flow aids digestion and relieves issues like acidity and bloating.

How to Practice Vajrasana

  1. Kneel on your mat with your knees together.
  2. Sit back on your heels. Your big toes should touch, and your heels should be slightly apart.
  3. Keep your spine straight and hands on your knees.
  4. Close your eyes and breathe deeply.

Benefits Beyond Digestion

Vajrasana is also a meditative pose. Its stable base allows the spine to remain upright with minimal effort, making it ideal for Pranayama and meditation practice.

At Swaastik Yog School, we teach Vajrasana as a foundation for many advanced pranayama techniques in our 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training.
